چکیده

in this work, effects of homogenization time of 3 to 13 h at 1200 °c on the grain refinement of as-cast aisi 301 stainless steel after different hot rolling conditions were investigated. the results showed that the minimum grain size of 16±7 mm was achieved when homogenization took place at 1200 °c for 9 h followed by hot rolling at temperature range of 1000–1200 °c with strain of 0.8 and strain rate of 1.2 s-1 and annealing at 1050 °c for 3 min. effect of nb element on the retardation of recrystallization was pronounced. it seems that there is an optimum solute segregation below which retardation and above which grain growth of recrystallized grains is dominant. it was also found that this optimum homogenization condition was dependent upon the hot rolling parameters; higher the strain and strain rate resulted in lower homogenizing time at 1200 °c.

The Effect of Hot Deformation Parameters on Grain Size Refinement in a Martensitic Stainless Steel

The grain size refinement of AISI 422 martensitic stainless steel in the temperature range of 950-1150 ºC was investigated by hot deformation tests. The deformed specimens were held at deformation temperature with delay times of 5 to 300s after achieving a strain of 0.3. The austenite grains exhibit a considerable growth at temperature higher than 1050˚C, while the grain coarsening is negligibl...

Magnificent Grain Refinement of Al-Mg2Si Composite by Hot Rolling

The effect of chemical composition and the hot rolling operations on the microstructure and mechanical properties of in situ aluminum matrix composite with Mg2Si phase as the reinforcement was studied. It was revealed that the modification by phosphorous results in the rounder (more spherical) primary and secondary (eutectic) magnesium silicide intermetallics. During hot rolling, the primary pa...

Strain-Induced Martensite Transformation Simulations during Cold Rolling of AISI 301 Austenitic Stainless Steel

Austenite is a semi-stable phase in most stainless steels that deforms to martensite under Md30 and forms martensitetype ά and ε due to the deformation in the steels. Since the distribution of strain induced martensite plays animportant role in achieving desired properties, the main objective of the present work is to model martensitedistribution of ά during cold rolling using...

Grain Size Effect on the Hot Deformation Processing Map of AISI 304 Austenitic Stainless Steel

In this study, the hot deformation processing map of AISI 304 austenitic stainless steel in two initial grain sizes of 15 and 40 μm was investigated. For this purpose, cylindrical samples were used in the hot compression test at the temperature range of 950-1100 °C and the strain rate of 0.005-0.5% s-1. At first, the relationship between the peak stress and Zener-Hollomon parameter w...
